Private Pilot License

Earning your Private Pilot License is the most memorable part of your training.

Every aviation journey starts with the PPL. This is where you'll acquire all the building blocks of your skills. There are three milestones you'll remember forever: your first flight, your first solo, and passing your checkride. I remember each of these so vividly.

Plus One Flyers has great planes with updated avionics. I did my PPL training in airplanes with old-school analog flight instruments, known as the six-pack, but I recommend using airplanes with modern avionics packages throughout your training.

PPL eligibility:

  • Be at least 17 years old (16 years old to solo).
  • Read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Pass required knowledge test.
  • Receive and log ground and flight training from an authorized instructor.
  • Meet aeronautical experience requirements (40 total flight hours including 5 solo flight hours).
  • At least Third-class medical.
  • Pass practical test with designated practical examiner (DPE).

Because we train under Part 61, there's a ton of flexibility on your pace and schedule.

PPL cost breakdown:

$150 - Medical

$1,000 - Textbook & pilot supplies

$6,750 - Dual Training - 30 hours x ($65/hr (My rate) + $160/hr (plane rate))

$1,600 - Solo Training - 10 hours x $160/gr

OR
